Hey there!
As I am writing this I’m waiting for my last flight until I’m finally going to be back in the town I lived in during my exchange in Australia. I’m incredibly bored right now and writing this post is really just my way of keeping myself awake. I have been travelling for over 24 hours and I guess I’ve slept approximately 5 hours. So not surprisingly I am extremely tired well I mean it would be 2.30 in the morning right now, at least if I was in Switzerland. Here it is already 10.30.
I just hate waiting especially when I am this tired. You know, I am one of those people who get to the bus station exactly on time not a minute too early yet also never too late. I just can’t stand having to wait around for ages while I could do so much other stuff. God am I tired at this stage I am not even sure whether I’m going to upload this exact post or whether I’ll rewrite it because I’ll be realising that I was rather delusional due to overtiredness when writing this.
I just had a cup of coffee and I still feel like I am going to fall asleep as soon as I stop doing something. I even started reading books for my final exams yet none of the things I read have stuck in my head. Don’t you hate the feeling of reading a sentence over and over again and you just don’t seem to understand the content the least little bit. I usually only get that when I’m reading texts for philosophy class yet when I read it the third or fourth time it somehow starts to make sense. Right now this is very unlikely to happen unless the caffeine from the coffee I had before suddenly hit me.
Anyways aren’t we all here to read and hear about food and not about my well thought out techniques to not fall asleep? Well what I’d love to have right now would be one of my favourite ever brekkies ever I have actually only started to love a few weeks ago. The breakfast I’m going to share today is so refreshing, energising and on top of that absolutely delicious.
I am talking about a green smoothie a thing I actually used to make fun of just a few months ago. I once had a green juice about two years ago, which basically tasted like liquid salad so I just couldn’t understand how on earth one could like drinking green smoothies. I was excepting it to taste like the green juice I had just with a thicker consistency. Yet when I decided to step out of my comfort zone and prepare my first green smoothie bowl a few weeks ago I was absolutely stunned. It tasted nothing like salad not that I don’t like salad, just not for breakfast. This breakfast immediately made it to the top of my all-time faves. It is just so amazingly delicious.
I like to make my green smoothie with banana and mango to give it a nice sweetness, and then I add spinach to get my greens in and some avocado, which makes it nice and creamy. As a liquid I like to add almond milk, since that’s what I’ve always got at home. Soymilk works fine too and I’d say coconut water could taste delish as well, though I have never actually tried that. And obviously you can also just use ordinary milk.
The avocado is honestly the key ingredient it transforms kind of boring smoothie into this creamy goodness. Amazing!
I personally like to serve my smoohies in a bowl with lots of toppings. I just prefer eating my breakfast to drinking it. I only ever drink smoothies when I have to do sports afterwards because I absolutely hate the feeling of a full stomach when being active.
This post seems to be about things I don’t like, waiting, a full stomach oh and being so tired not even coffee is keeping me awake. Though shouldn’t this be a positive place since I love food and taking pictures of my food and then writing about it?
Well I’ll stop moaning now and give you the recipe for my favourite green smoothie so other people can experience than same epiphany I experienced a few weeks ago. I bet you’ll fall in love with this creamy amazingness as well.
- 30-50g frozen mango*
- 1 frozen banana
- 120ml almond milk**
- a handful of spinach
- ¼ avocado
topping ideas:
- cacao nibs
- fruit
- dried figs
- bee pollen
- chia seeds
- nuts
- …
- Chuck all your ingredients into a blender.
- Blend them until smooth and creamy!
- Pour your smoothie into a bowl and top with what ever your heart desires.
Voila, breakfast’s done! Honestly if you haven’t entered the green smoothie fan base yet you should so try this, it is absolutely worth it. THIS TASTES AH-MAH-ZING!
Anyways I’ll go now I might go for another walk around the food court, a little movement’s always good to keep yourself from falling asleep.
Cheers from Australia
*If you don’t want to splurge on mango just use more banana or substitute with any other fruit you like. I could imagine apple or pear being quite nice in this combination. I think I might try this the next time I’ll make this.
** or any other liquid of your choice.
