Hey there!
If you have been following me for a while you would probably know that I have been on holidays for the past three months. Yes three months, sounds crazy right?
I did a fair bit of travelling in the first part of my big summer break. The second half I stayed in Switzerland as I actually didn’t mind being at home again for a bit and yes also because I decided that I had spent enough money on travelling for this summer and that I should probably start saving up for my next big trip. Though I obviously couldn’t just sit at home and do nothing for the rest of those three months. So I made use of one of the things I love most about Switzerland. The incredibly reliable Swiss train system. You can literally go anywhere by train in this country, even the remotest mountain village is reachable by public transport. It might take a bit longer than by car but there’s just something to sitting on the train for hours and hours that I truly enjoy.
One of the little trips I went on took me to Bern. The train journey to Bern took approximately 2 hours from where I live so it was indeed not the closest place the go to. Yet because my friend and I are both proud owners of a GA we didn’t mind the long train journey as it didn’t automatically also cost us tons of money. (for all non- Swiss people: GA = ticket valid on all public transport in the entire country for one year, only worth buying when you use public transport very frequently) The cost of Swiss public transport is probably a shock for everyone newly arriving in Switzerland. Considering I paid 7 francs to use busses and trains all over Buenos Aires for two and a half weeks I can totally understand that. But I personally think the price is totally justifiable.
Anyways let me get back to talking about my trip to Bern. It was a beautiful day in early September and my friend and I were strolling through the beautiful (and slow…) city of Berne. At one stage we obviously got a little hungry and decided to go for a quick lunch. As the lovely Tina, who owns a newly opened and indeed the first juice bar in Bern, had recently asked whether I wanted to come by and check out her little place we decided to go there. As we arrived we were kindly welcomed by Tina and her boyfriend who was just mixing up a smoothie behind the counter of the slightly Australian looking Juice Bar situated in the middle of Bern’s wonderful old town. As I entered ILoveJuice I literally felt like I had just been shifted to the other side of the world and I was standing in a Juice Bar in the middle of Surry Hills, one of Sydney’s trendiest neighbour hoods.
The interior was mainly kept wooden which was nicely complemented with the light blue tiles behind the counter, which gives the whole place a very modern touch. Little things like the menu written on a blackboard, beautiful lamps, granola to try and a random pineapple on top of a shelf just give this place that certain something which made me fall in love with it.
The lunch menu changes weekly but they have got a set juice and smoothie menu. They offer salads, miso soup, chia pudding and acai bowls. Yes another place that serves acai bowls, awesome, right?! You can also put together your own smoothie if you don’t fancy any of their suggested creations which in my opinion all sound delicious. I also love how their smoothies are named after cocktails, so creative, right?
Anyways my friend and I obviously went for the acai bowl, we all know, Fanny loooooves her acai bowls. Yeah, I admit it I am slightly obsessed…
The bowl tasted amazing and it was topped with banana, coconut flakes and most importantly the most delicious granola I had ever tasted! You know what’s even better you can actually also buy this delicious granola, which Tina makes herself at ILoveJuice so you can have more of it at home.
My friend and I had a wonderful visit and we even got to see their production room where all their delicious cold-pressed juices are made. We both left with a bag of granola and I also got three juices to try. I went for HEART BEAT (beetroot, apple, pear, lemon, ginger) , DOCTOR GREEN(spinach, kale, celery, cucumber, lemon, parsley) and BOOSTYLICIOUS (apple, celery, cucumber, lemon, mint, chlorella, spirulina).
All of the juices tasted truly delicious and you could definitely taste the hours of work that go into producing a cold pressed juice. Another plus of those juices and actually all the other things sold at ILoveJuice is that most of their products are organic. Tina told me the only non-organic ingredients they use are tropical fruits as it can be really hard to get organic pineapple or watermelon that doesn’t ruin your budget.
So if you want to try out a delicious smoothie or acai bowl, taste the wonderful homemade all gluten-free granola or just experience the feeling of spending an afternoon at Surry Hills you should definitely chatch a train to Bern and make a detour into the world of ILoveJuice at Herrengasse 10 in Bern’s old town. Yet if you havent’ got the time for a little city trip and you don’t happen to live in Bern you can still experience the wonderful tastes createt by ILoveJuice. Just go on their website and order some juices. You can even choose a whole detox package if you wish to do a little autumn-cleanse to your body.
- Prices: The lunches and smoothies are very affordable. The juices are on the pricier side, yet considering your dinking 1.5 kilos of organic veggies totally justifiable.
- Food: Delicious and healthy mostly vegan creations, mainly organic ingredients, everything homemade
- Atmosphere and interior: modern, Aussie-vibe
BUT: ILoveJuice is rather small and seating space is limited so I recommend to chose the take-away option if you are planning to go there in a larger group of people.
- Staff: helpful and friendly
- Location: As I don’t know Bern very well I can’t really judge about that I do know however that it is only a ten to fifteen minute walk away from the main station so I am guessing it is pretty central
