Hey there!
I am surely an advocate of real desserts, if I want dessert I genuinely think a tad more sugar or a fat won’t harm you. After all were talking about dessert. A dessert is something special, something you are supposed to have once in a while not every single day after each meal. That is the thing that makes it special, right? That is also why my cakes creation, even though they might be vegan or even gluten-free sometimes contain ordinary white sugar, margarine and white flour. I am totally aware that processed foods like such aren’t the best for ones health yet I personally think if your not having too much of it you won’t be harmed. I mean that is always the case really. Too much of anything can’t be good for you. So If I want a treat I want a real one. I don’t want something that is just pretending to be dessert and ends up tasting like nothing.
However there are those moments I just seem to crave sweets at every moment of the day and for those moments that usually happen once a month I decided to come up with a deliciously sweet treat, which actually doesn’t contain any nasty ingredients. I mean I guess you ladies out there all know what I am talking about when you just seem to be able to crave sweet things all day and whether you are having a bar of chocolate or not two your cravings still won’t be satisfied.
As I said I prefer to not overwhelm my body with heaps of white sugar at one time as it actually doesn’t make me feel that incredible and as we all know at that time of the month there’s definitely no need for more negative vibes.
So for that time or actually any other time you feel like a deliciously sweet yet rather healthy banana treat I came up with an amazing recipe for banana and date oat bars. And those two key ingredients actually also form the only added sweetener. Other than that I obviously threw in some oats, hence the name banana and date OAT bars. Well and then a little bit of coconut oil, flax seed, corn starch, vanilla and walnuts.
You really only need a few basic ingredients that most of us probably already have got at home.
This recipe is actually also great as a quick breakfast as the oats, bananas and dates will definitely boost your energy levels. Just perfect if you happen to be one of those people who can’t seem to get up in time to prepare an actual breakfast. So surely it would be much better to reach for this one instead of grabbing one of those sugary granola bar on the way out of your house.
Anyways I could tell you lots of other occasions those delicious bars are just the perfect thing to munch on but you probably just want to finally know the recipe, so here you go:
150 g dates
3 ripe bananas
70g oats
40g walnuts
1 tbs coconut oil
1 tbs baking powder
1tbs corn starch
1tbs flaxseed
½ vanilla bean
- Soak the dates in boiling water for at least 1 hour. If you are doing this overnigh you can use cold water too. The soaking simply makes it a lot easier for your blender to create a smooth texture.
- After soaking your dates chop up the walnuts and put them aside for later. Preheat your oven to 180°C
- Now put the dates, bananas, coconut oil, flaxseed and the seeds of the vanilla bean into your food processor/blender and blend until your ingredients have come together to form a smooth paste (it won’t be super paste like, yet also not very runny).
- Pour your mixture into a bowl and add the oats, corn starch and the baking powder. Mix until combined.
- When your mixture has become one smooth batter pour it into a lined brownie tin and sprinkle it with the walnuts you chopped in step 2.
- Bake at 180°C for 20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean when stuck in the middle.
- After twenty minutes let your banana and date oat bars cool down and then cut it into squares.
Voila, a healthy yet super delicious and sweet treat for when you crave something sweet or just a wonderful quick breakfast for on the go. Now you’re just a few basic ingredients away from being able to eat those delights as well so all I have got left to say is: get cooking!

Hi! Thanks for making me notice that little but obviously crucial error.. I did of course mean 150 gramms of dates not 150 dates, that would indeed be atad too much… So sorry for the mistake!! And I’m happy to hear you like my recipe:)
