Hey there!
Before I get talking about today’s recipe I actually want to share something else with you. I always tend towards buying organic products and I love checking out the variety of amazing products at my local organic food shops. Their product ranges are just great and you can honestly find such amazing and extraordinary ingredients in those places. So when I was contacted by Farmy I was so excited since they happen to be an organic food shop. But they’re not any organic food shop they actually only sell Swiss products, which I personally find such a great idea. Firstly do they support local farmers and companies and the fact I like most is that those products actually haven’t travelled thousands of kilometres until they land on my plate. This is actually a fact that always bothers me about importet food. Of course I occasionally reach out to products that haven’t been locally grown. Yet I try to cook with seasonal produce as much as possible.
Another not so ordinary thing about Farmy happens to be that they’re actually an online shop and they deliver straight to your doorstep. If you life in Zurich, that’s where they’re located, they even use electric bikes to do so. Though since I live outside the city they obviously had to deliver by car. My order arrived at my place exactly the day I chose it to arrive, which was in my case about five days after I placed my order. Since we aren’t usually home between 9 and 12 a.m. and that’s when they deliver, I told them to place my order in our garage, which they kindly did.
So after coming home from school I was surprised by a large brown paper bag full of fresh vegetables and some other vegan goodies. I mostly ordered vegetables, since they always make the base of any dish I cook, though I also decided to try some new things.
All the products I ordered were top-notch quality. The vegetables were incredibly fresh and flavourful and all the other goodies I got were equally as great. The vegetables actually tasted different and much better than the ones I usually get at the supermarket. Honestly those beets I got were so incredibly sweet and flavourful and not a slight bit earthy, which always bothers me about the ones you get at the supermarket. I also can’t complain about the spinach, nor the silverbeet, the kiwis, the coolest coloured carrots ever and those amazing pink radish sprouts, which make the perfect topping for any salad.
Besides the heap of veggies I got I also chose this extremely delicious green smoothie by the brand Freunde am Kochen. Then I ordered some seitan, which I have never ever had before, some miso paste and last but not least some soy paneer, which I was actually most excited about. I absolutely adore any paneer-based dish, well actually the Indian cuisine in general, but anyways, I was just so curious to taste a dairy free paneer version. Since this was the product I was looking forward to the most I also decided to use it as the base for today’s recipe. Hence I came up with this awesome paneer curry dish. I used lots of Indian spices, but I honestly just made this up. Any actual Indian would probably never classify this as Indian food yet to me it tasted pretty amazing and yes rather Indian too. Besides lots and lots of spices I also used spinach and some green bell peppers and to contrast their slight bitterness I added a handful of goji berries as a lovely finishing touch.
So guys here you got the recipe to create this awesome paneer curry and since you should probably get yourself some soy paneer before creating this I’ll also gice you the link to where you can order it. So just click on soy paneer and the link will take you directly to the online shop.
Ingredients for two super hungry people
- 1 soy paneer (200g) *
- 2 green capsicums
- 200g spinach
- 100ml water
- 1 clove of garlic
- 1 onion
- 1 tsp of fresh ginger
- ¼ tsp black mustard seeds
- 2tsp cumin
- ¼ tsp red chilli flakes
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp fennel seeds
- 1 sachet of saffron
- 20g goji berries
- salt
- vegetable oil
- Cut your soy paneer into big chunks, put aside for later
- Now chop up your fresh ginger, the garlic as well as your onion
- Then finely slice your green pepper, I only used one and a half and left the rest aside for decoration
- Heat up some vegetable oil in a saucepan, fry over medium heat until the onion has softened
- Add your green pepper, as well as all of your spices then stir it all up and fry for another minute or two
- Now add 100ml of water as well as your spinach, lower the heat to low and cover with a lid so the spinach can wilt down, this will probably take around 5-6 minutes
- Meanwhile fry your paneer until browned on all sides
- When your spinach has wilted down and the green pepper slices are soft, add the fried paneer as well as your goji berries and mix it all up
- Now you could toast some slivered almonds if you want to add some crunch, if not your paneer dish is ready to be served.
This dish tasted absolutely amazing. My mum and I had it with a delicious masala daal, which was kind of a modified version of my tofu tikka masala. Though I’d say this would definitely also taste great with a bowl of plain basmati rice. Eat it alongside whatever your heart desires, but just try it; this was honestly one of the best things I had cooked in a while. So to end this post I’ll leave you with to quests for the day.

* If you can’t get your hands on soy paneer you can either use ordinary paneer or substitute with tofu.
